Measuring Tools

To ensure accurate measures, a variety of measuring instruments and rulers are available.
In addition to harmonious curves and lines. Two or three rulers should be adequate to serve the majority of needs because buying all of these would be very expensive.

The tape measure is a versatile tool that may be used to measure both straight and curved lines. A little metal cap is present on both ends of a dressmaker’s tape.

The metal portion on one end of the tailor’s tape measure is about 5 cm (2 in) long and is used to measure the inside leg up to the crotch.

A ruler called the Pattern Master has both
a curved edge and a real right angle. It is
mostly used for drafting patterns, but it can also be helpful for marking hemlines during the manufacturing of clothing.

Various curved edges can be found in French Curves. The run of a curve, such as a neckline or collar form, can be corrected with these little rulers.

A lengthy ruler is called a “metre stick.” It is useful for determining a garment’s length from the floor and determining the proper grain line when applying patterns to cloth. It is a useful tool for measuring the length of fabric unrolled as well. The metre stick is mostly used for pattern drafting, drawing the grain line, and drawing long straight lines, like the legs of pants.

When a set square is insufficient for the task, an L-Square Ruler is employed. This ruler is a favorite among tailors and can be found in all tailoring shops.
